Operations Manager – Knoxville, TN

Universal Environmental Services is hiring an Operations Manager for the Knoxville, TN Division. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with extensive experience managing  DOT CDL drivers’ plant operations and a background in hazardous waste, waste oil handling/processing, and industrial vacuum services.

Salary is based on experience – UES offers a very comprehensive compensation package. 

Reporting Relationship – Direct Reports to Vice President of Operations; Indirect – Corporate Staff

Education/Experience

  • Associate degree or five years of comprehensive experience in operations and management
  • Five years experience in either hazardous waste oil or waste oil handling/processing

Responsibilities

  • Leads and directs overall facility operations.
  • Business Development – Develop and sustain relationships with new and existing vendors.
  • Plant Operations – Oversee all collection, sales, and service operations
  • Industrial Vacuum Services – Oversee vacuum truck services, sales, and project operations.
  • Increase volumes and sales in territory areas as determined by our growth strategy.
  • Monitor the vehicle maintenance program; maintain all required DOT documentation; review driver logs and related DOT documentation.
  • Support vacuum truck services, schedule services, and maintain the equipment.
  • Supervise daily driver activities for the Region, including but not limited to new customer setup, scheduling call-in services, analyzing routes, optimizing efficiency using routing system and other resources available, worker productivity, and administering bi-weekly payroll.
  • Monitor the collection and shipping of used oil to customers, the segregation of used antifreeze for recycling, and the segregation of oily water for other materials.
  • Provide periodic training, including DOT regulations, Used Oil Regulations, and OSHA Regulations. Conduct safety meetings working closely with UES safety resources.

Finished Lubricants Transport Driver – CDL A

Qualifications:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with tanker/hazmat endorsement.
  • 2 years of verifiable driving experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid DOT Medical Certificate.

Ability to obtain or hold TWIC Certification

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for loading, transportation, and delivery of finished products from Peachtree City to various locations and processing plants.
  • Uses proper equipment and follows established operating procedures to safely and efficiently perform all duties needed to effectively service the customer.
  • Completes all paperwork according to company policies including but not limited to: daily vehicle inspections and maintenance, manifests, and driver logs.
  • Reports all accidents, spills, and injuries according to the Company Emergency Response Procedures.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and satisfaction.

  • Be proficient in Microsoft word and excel.
  • Operate pumps, valves, and related equipment for blending.
  • Work nights and weekends when required to meet customer demand.
  • Assist blender with tasks as required.

  • Able to work in inclement weather such as rain or cold for long periods of time.

Analytical Chemist

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our laboratory team. The ideal individual should have a degree in physical science (B.S.) with experience in a production laboratory setting. This is an entry-level position and is well suited to someone who wants to learn and establish a career.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the chemical and physical properties of new products like motor oils, hydraulic fluids, and base oils as well as waste products such as used oil, diesel, industrial by-products, and other liquids/solids by utilizing appropriate testing and measurement standards.
  • Participate in the daily testing of tank samples, truck samples, railcars, and other activities in the laboratory and quality control areas. Such tests include BTU value, presence of metals, water percentage, total halogens, sulfur content, flash point, and material weight/pounds per gallon/viscosity
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment including, but not limited to: ICP, FTIR, GC, viscometers, and density meters in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines
  • Ensure adherence to professional lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness
  • Conducts laboratory audits; inspect and calibrate equipment, reviewing operational procedures and sampling techniques, review documentation and record keeping, and provide detailed written reports for such audits
  • Gives technical support to all Regional Managers, Sales, Plant Managers, and Customers
  • Update all lab safety manuals with appropriate topics, assist in a variety of plant duties/administration
  • The position available will work second shift.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be willing to become familiar with all company policies and procedures regarding safety and operations
  • Capable of teaching and instructing others in the use and operation of UES laboratory equipment after training
  • Must be able to learn a working knowledge of all applicable rules, regulations pertaining to the collection/transportation of used oil

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in chemistry or related field preferred
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in laboratory operations preferred
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment/procedures including GC, ICP, FTIR, and Wet Chemistry
  • Intermediate computer skills. (MS Word, Excel preferred)
  • Basic Math skills (Mandatory)

Electrical / Instrumentation Maintenance Technician

We are looking for a committed, hands-on, resourceful, and enthusiastic electrical maintenance person to expand our team at our Corporate Offices in Peachtree City, GA.  Your main responsibilities will be to learn and master the electrical and instrumentation side of our industrial systems and be involved in many of our new projects. You will be supported and trained as needed.

You do need experience in repairing, maintaining, diagnosing, and troubleshooting high/low voltage electrical systems. You will need some familiarity with PLCs. But, above all, you have to be willing to commit to the team and the work as every member of our team does.
